System 200 System 400

Sheffield Millennium Galleries, Sheffield, UK

The magnificent Millennium Galleries, the cultural flagship of the Heart of the City regeneration project, has transformed the centre of Sheffield. Bringing together four galleries under one roof, the Galleries, opened in 2001, provide an innovative and elegant venue for visual arts, craft and design.

Panelock Systems Limited worked in close liaison with designers Pringle Richards and Sharratt to custom design their Gallery Display System 400 so as to maintain and compliment the light and airy concept of the building with its marble floors and high ceilings, whilst at the same time providing versatile state of the art display facilities. The 4.2m high panels discreetly stack against the walls of the spacious Special Exhibition Gallery when not in use and are easily moved using the specially designed Panelock trolley.

Gallery Display System 200 units at 3 metres high are also used extensively to provide flexible display areas. The original System 200 units have been added to in the years since the Gallery’s opening, making even more display wall area available.

Committed first and foremost to the promotion of the heritage and history of Sheffield and also to its artists and craftsmen of today, Museums Sheffield have established special partnerships with national institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Tate and the National Portrait Gallery to ensure that many treasures from Britain’s national collections are brought to the City for the enjoyment of its people and visitors. The Gallery’s showing of four major exhibitions a year is made possible because of the ease and speed with which both Panelock Systems 400 and 200 can be repositioned.

"The considerable cost savings using Panelock as opposed to our old method of building stud and MDF walls for each exhibition, have enabled us to increase the number of exhibitions shown"
-Nick Booth : Head of Exhibition Production, Museums Sheffield
